What is a degree substitute document?

Some official bodies and professional associations do not accept proof of payment for an official degree as proof of completion of studies.

If this is the case, please request a degree substitute document to stand in place of the official degree certificate.

Please note that:

You will only be able to make this request once you have received a receipt for the payment of fees, not before.
Issued in Spanish only.
This document can be requested once only.

This certificate serves to replace the official degree certificate for one year.

If you have still not received your official degree certificate after that year has passed, you can request an extension of the validity of this certificate for an additional six months. You must request the extension before it expires.

Go to the platform for certificates and degree requests:

Once you are logged in, select the language and follow the steps.

Access

Select the certificate

Select 'Degree Substitute Document' (€60).

What will you receive?

Within approximately five working days, you will receive an email with an electronically signed certificate as proof that you have completed your studies.

What does it contain?

Your name and last name(s), date and place of birth, passport or national identity card number, academic transcript number and the national registration number for your degree.

Legalization by the Ministry

To legalise the substitute document, you must tick the box ‘Leg. Min’ when accessing the platform for certificates and degree requests. Your certificate will be sent to you signed by the
person in charge at the secretary’s office.

In which cases may you need to legalise your certificate?

If you have completed your studies in Medicine, Physical Therapy, Nursing or Pharmacy.
